Why "Second Mountain"?

The name "Second Mountain" comes from a concept popularized by author David Brooks: the idea that after climbing the first mountain of career success and personal achievement, many people discover a second mountain—one focused on service, commitment, and deeper purpose.

For Dr. Matulis, home-based primary care is that second mountain. It's medicine the way it used to be practiced—and the way it should be for patients who can't easily leave home.

For the patients we serve, this is often their second mountain too: a stage of life focused on what matters most—health, dignity, and time with family.

What Longitudinal Care Means

Longitudinal care means we're not here for a single visit. Dr. Matulis becomes your ongoing primary care physician—the doctor who knows your history, understands your goals, and sees you regularly over months and years.

This isn't urgent care at home. It's a relationship.

Dr. Matulis is happy to be back in Maine where he lives in Hebron with his wife Katie, daughter Mary Ann, and son Frankie. He also has a dog, Sweetie, and two cats: Flora and Spencer. Much of life outside medicine happens outdoors — hiking local trails, fly-fishing Maine waters, and tending a growing Christmas-tree farm — grounding his work in the same community his patients call home.
