A home-based primary care practice rooted in the Oxford Hills
The name "Second Mountain" comes from a concept popularized by author David Brooks: the idea that after climbing the first mountain of career success and personal achievement, many people discover a second mountain—one focused on service, commitment, and deeper purpose.
For Dr. Matulis, home-based primary care is that second mountain. It's medicine the way it used to be practiced—and the way it should be for patients who can't easily leave home.
For the patients we serve, this is often their second mountain too: a stage of life focused on what matters most—health, dignity, and time with family.
Longitudinal care means we're not here for a single visit. Dr. Matulis becomes your ongoing primary care physician—the doctor who knows your history, understands your goals, and sees you regularly over months and years.
This isn't urgent care at home. It's a relationship.
| Traditional Office Medicine | Second Mountain |

| You travel to the office | We come to you |
| May see different providers | Same doctor, every visit |
| Reactive: come in when sick | Proactive: regular visits to prevent problems |
| Limited view of home environment | Full picture: medications, safety, living situation |
After years caring for older adults in traditional internal medicine settings, Dr. Matulis recognized that many patients need something different — more time, deeper relationships, and a physician who truly knows them — which led to the creation of Second Mountain Internal Medicine, P.C.
Dr. Matulis is happy to be back in Maine where he lives in Hebron with his wife Katie, daughter Mary Ann, and son Frankie. He also has a dog, Sweetie, and two cats: Flora and Spencer. Much of life outside medicine happens outdoors — hiking local trails, fly-fishing Maine waters, and tending a growing Christmas-tree farm — grounding his work in the same community his patients call home.
